Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data Yomiru collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We aim to collect the minimum amount of data needed to run the service.

What we collect

• Account information— email address, username, password (stored hashed), and optional profile details such as display name, avatar, banner, and bio.
• Activity data— your library, watch progress, favorites, custom lists, comments, reviews, and notifications. This powers cross-device sync.
• Technical data— IP address, device type, browser user-agent, and basic page-view events, used for security and performance.
• Connections— AniList username if you choose to import your AniList library.

What we don’t collect

• We don’t sell personal data to advertisers or brokers.
• We don’t track you across other websites. Embedded video players have their own privacy policies; we have no view into that activity.
• We don’t collect payment information unless you opt in to a paid plan.

How we use it

• To operate the service and personalize your experience.
• To remember your watch progress across devices.
• To enable social features (followers, watch parties) at the visibility you choose.
• To detect abuse, prevent fraud, and improve the reliability of the service.
• To send transactional emails (verification, password reset, account security notices).

How we share it

We share personal data only with service providers we rely on to operate Yomiru — hosting, transactional email delivery, error reporting, and analytics. Each is bound by a data-processing agreement and may only process data on our behalf.

Cookies

We use a strictly necessary session cookie for authentication and a CSRF cookie to protect against cross-site request forgery. With your consent, we may also set analytics cookies. You can change your cookie preferences from the banner that appears on first visit.

Your rights

• Access— download a copy of your data from Settings → Account → Export data.
• Correction— update profile and account fields from your settings.
• Deletion— delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger zone.
• Portability— your data export is provided in a machine-readable JSON format.

Data retention

We retain personal data while your account is active. After deletion, we keep only the minimum required for legal compliance, abuse prevention, and dispute resolution — usually no longer than 90 days.

Children

Yomiru is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in-product and via the “Last updated” date.
